Presentation by Lisa Hopkins, Logan School Board representative from our area. Trustland plans used to go to state and then back to school board for checking, but now the local board has a greater role. School board does not have control over hiring and firing district personnel. They are only responsible for Superintendent and business manager. The superintendent and business manager develop a budget and then they present it to the board. Responsibilities to community council 1- provide training, 2- read and approve SIP and Trustland plans, 3- assure compliance with state law and board rules, 4 - provide information and data to create plans, 5 - report annually on SCC's regarding digital citizenship, 6- Disburse trustland funds. Can receive the digital citizenship presentation beforehand and look at it and then visit with Dave Long for a short period of time to clear up questions. Important upcoming dates - plan submission, March 31, 2017, Superintendent and board review plans - April 14, 2017, and final plans submitted May 1, 2017, board reads and approves final plans before May 15, 2017. We have to sign before the March 31, 2017 submission and then receive updates periodically as the plan moves through the system. Trustland money should directly impact student learning. Board meetings are the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month at 5:00. Must sign up for public comment prior to the beginning of the meeting.
We got nice printouts of our mission statement. The district mission statement was praised at the PLC training yesterday. Our school mission is outside every teacher's door. Two words - Ensure and All - are very ambitious and we work to achieve that.
SNAP plan finalization - We need a crossing guard on 1600 East 1000 North. I propose that we approve our SNAP plan but it doesn't mean that we can't ask for things in the future - sidewalk in front of Les Schwab on South end of Logan. So we are approving that we have looked at this, it has been updated? Yes. Seconded by Kate, vote unanimous to approve
Budget update - YTD expenditures - 17013.04. Our allocation is $44,267. Every penny has been allocated.
Hiring committee selected Andrea Reid to replace SarahAnn Delaney as our science specialist. She has experience as an instruction assistant and an AmeriCorp representative. She is completing her elementary education degree. We were given the green light to hire on November 29. She will begin next week at 3.5 hours, but discussions will be ongoing to increasing that to 5 once she begins. I would have liked to have had this wrapped up before the Thanksgiving break. Andrea has been given her curriculum map and Spencer has given her next week to plan and to get arrangements done. The 3.5 hours hits 4, 5, and kindergarten and some prep. Once she goes to 5 hours it will meet the science needs of all the students.
Math Benchmark Data - The math data aligns better with the common core than other measures like DIBELS. Get data from Spencer
Can we fund teachers from trustlands? Yes. I think we need to think outside the box.
Can we start discussing our plan in the January meeting? Yes, but I think we also need to look at and approve our by-laws. Sara will send out what we have now and then we can give input.
Next meeting is January 4, 7:00
Meeting adjourned at 8:25
